  • Sermon:The Only Worthwhile Life, John 14:6

The Introduction and Bible text (John 14:6) were not recorded. See Below:

    The Only Worthwhile Life
John 14:1-6, John 14: 6, ‘Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’.

Introduction: Beloved in the Lord Jesus Christ, in this age of scepticism in which we live, there are many competing explanations of what is real about human existence. There are many different religions and philosophical systems all giving different explanations of what constitutes truth; there are atheists and agnostics who nonetheless claim to be able to teach us about what is real; there are scientists, including those of the so-called social sciences like psychology who would have us believe that they have the true answers to the big questions in life. Why are there these attempts to explain human life and its meaning? The simple answer is that we all crave an explanation. We are creatures who hunger for meaning, for truth, for reality and for certainty.

But standing apart from all these claimants to knowledge about what life is really about is the towering figure of the Lord Jesus Christ. In a few brief clauses, He swept aside all other audacious pretenders to the truth about life when He said ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me’. Jesus was saying ‘cast aside all doubt and confusion. Here is the reality about life after death before the general resurrection, for I am telling you the infallible truth about eternal life or heaven and how to get there’.

This morning we are going to consider that this life Jesus speaks of in this text is firstly, Eternal Life; secondly, It Is An Absolutely Guaranteed Life; and thirdly, It Is Life Only Found And Experienced Through A Relationship With Jesus Christ.
